What is the Hackathon about?

The Hackathon on Earth Observation applications in Oman convenes young software developers, programmers, remote sensing, and data specialists as well as thematic experts with the aim of developing applications that tackle relevant challenges and are based on the use of Earth Observation data. This event is a unique opportunity to receive first-hand information about the potential of satellite imagery processing and analysis, and develop, with the support of experts, a solution with commercial value.

The event will take place during 2 full days in an innovative and motivating environment and will allow you to get in touch with local and international key actors in the context of Earth Observation.

Expected attendees

The workshop is aimed at university students with technical backgrounds in programming, satellite data analysis, marketing, and expertise in the thematic focus areas on environmental applications as well as the oil & gas sector. Participants work in groups of 4-6 people on the development on their solutions.

Simple Green is an application that helps tourists, tourism companies dedicated to outdoor activities and public authorities to identify, monitor, predict and visualise plagues such as mosquitos or jellyfishes affecting tourism activities on beaches, open water and other territories. It also will provide information about air quality to inform about potential risks to human health.

NOMO is a product from the Malaga Start-up company Agron and aims at improving the resolution and the frequency of images by combining satellite data with different resolution and revisit time, providing more images and data with better resolution to the customer.

DIST stands for Dispersal Intelligent Sustainable Tourism and provides a technical solution for citizens and tourism companies to find alternative destinations for safe and healthy tourism, avoiding crowded places and environmentally risky locations by combining Sentinel 5 for environmental parameters and VHR satellite data for measuring crowd densities.

The DIST team is an international team consisting of

  • Mahabir Gupta – Software Engineer

El Copernicus Hackathon Malaga se celebrará de forma semi-presencial. Los resultados se presentarán el día 2 de octubre de forma presencial en el Polo Nacional de Contenidos Digitales de Málaga.
